August, 2020

Dear Valued Member of West Allis Players,

This has indeed been the “winter of our discontent” as well as our spring, summer and soon fall. The pandemic has disrupted life as we know it and theater is no exception. We hope you are all staying healthy.

We wanted you to know what is happening with our group and our future.

As you know, we had to cancel our spring show, “Godspell” as well as to postpone “Beauty and the Beast.” Our 2020-2021 season is still in limbo, although it is safe to say that we will NOT be presenting a show in October, 2020. Realistically, the earliest that the West Allis Players will take the stage is Summer, 2021. Safety and health is our MAIN concern and we will follow the West Allis/West Milwaukee Park and Rec guidelines as well as the School Board recommendations.

We will be keeping you, our wonderful patrons and members, aware of all changes and decisions as we go forward.

Normally, we would be holding a September Membership Meeting where we would elect our board for the 2020-2021 season. We have decided to postpone this election. We have been holding our board meetings remotely for the past months and cannot see a way to hold a true vote until we can gather everyone together. We trust you understand and will give you ample notice when we will be able to hold this vote.

As far as our finances, we want to let you know that we are in the long virtual line to get a refund for the royalties paid for “Godspell.” We have not requested a refund for “Beauty and the Beast” as we have applied and have been allowed to change our production to July, 2021. Again, that is still pending the lifting of necessary restrictions.

We will be revisiting our options in 90 days and will let you know the latest news as decisions are made.

We miss the theater, we miss you as our audience and we can’t wait until our stage managers can once again “open the house.”

Stay safe and thank you again for your ongoing support for the West Allis Players!
