The Cliff Notes: Now an aspiring young architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you” —so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd” —a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. And Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leading to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence—a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.

Looking for 7 actors. 5m/2f
Auditions will consist of improv and reading from the script.
Show Synopsis: Set in Terre Haute, Indiana in late 1979, The Nerd centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved has life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. However, Rick’s awkward manner and inappropriate behavior throw the occasion into shambles. It turns out that Rick is a stupid nerd who overstays his welcome with a vengeance.
Character Breakdown:
Willum Cubert: Mid 30’s. He is an architect, currently designing a hotel for Mr. Waldgrave, and a pushover. He’s kind and intelligent, but Tansy says he “could use a little gumption.” He lacks the backbone to stand up for himself
Tansy McGinnis: 30’s. Likes Willum, but is moving to Washington DC for her career. Bright, intelligent.
Alex Hammond: 30’s. Willum’s best friend. Drama critic for the local paper. Always ready with a sarcastic comment.
Rick Stedman: 30’s. “The Nerd”, chalk inspector. Oblivious to insults and lacks manners and sensitivity. Hopelessly stupid.
Warnock Waldgrave: 40-50, hotel owner and business man. Un-creative and does not smile. Is employing Willum to design his new hotel.
Clelia Waldgrave: 40-50, wife of Warnock. Stressed all the time, holds back her true emotions.
Thor Waldgrave: 8-10. The Waldgraves’ terror of a son. “Poster child for Planned Parenthood,” as Axel calls him. Spends most of the play hiding in a closet or bedroom.

The Cliff Notes: Want a show that parodies the plays of the great William Shakespeare? Think that Shakespeare is normally too long to go see? Do you lose count of how many characters there are in Shakespeare’s shows? Do you want actors to break the fourth wall and talk to you and with you rather than at you?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then do we have the show for you! For those keeping track, that would be 37 plays in less than two hours. That’s only a little over $2 per play. An amazing value!
The Cast List: This is one of those shows….everyone is playing tons of Shakespearean characters. So many in fact, we’re just going to list the great talent that we’ll have on the stage. You can try and put the show character names to the people!
