A romantic, comic fable set in the 19th century village of Kulyenchikov. The tale follows a schoolteacher, who arrives to tutor the town doctor’s daughter. He quickly learns that the town is under a 200-year-old curse that makes everyone chronically stupid!

Leon Tolchinsky: (Male; Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s) An ambitious young school teacher, newly arrived in the Village of Kulyenchikov. He’s been hired to educate the village doctor’s daughter, Sophia.
Snetsky: (Non-gender specific; 20’s to 60’s) An unintelligent shepherd
Magistrate: (Non-gender specific; 40’s plus) The unwise village judge
Slovitch: (Non-gender specific; 20’s to 50’s) An idiotic butcher
Mishkin: (Male; 20’s to 60’s) A foolish postman
Yenchna: (Female; 20’s to 60’s) A ridiculous woman, a seller of goods
Zubritsky: (Male; 40’s to 60’s) The dimwitted village doctor
Lenya Zubritsky: (Female; 40’s to 60’s) The doctor’s equally dimwitted wife
Sophia Zubritsky: (Female; 20’s to mid 30’s) The doctor’s beautiful young daughter, who is so stupid she just recently learned to sit down
Count Gregor Yousekevitch: (Male; 40’s plus) Ancestor of the man who cast the curse of stupidity on the Village of Kulyenchikov. Last in the line of Yousekevitches.
